(LA)HORDE . Ballet National de Marseille
Après moi, le délugeAUSTRIAN-PREMIERE
FESTSPIELHAUS CO-PRODUCTION
Recommended for ages 14 and over
Description
After me, the deluge! In a world teetering on the brink of collapse, dance becomes an act of resistance.
In this new work, (LA)HORDE – arguably the hottest collective on the international dance scene right now – takes the audience on an unvarnished yet hopeful exploration of the present. The title Après moi, le déluge (‘After me, the deluge’) is inspired by a quote from Louis XV. A phrase that many generations have claimed as their own and which takes on a new urgency in the face of political and social crises, climate catastrophe and wars. Yet rather than succumbing to decay, the company calls on us to embrace the contradictions of our time and create new narratives. In their piece, dance becomes the language of resistance, as the question of the future is no longer suppressed but collectively negotiated.
(LA)HORDE, comprising Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer and Arthur Harel, has been directing the Ballet national de Marseille since 2019. Since its founding in 2013, the collective has been questioning the political dimension of dance by exploring various forms, from raves to traditional dances – always keeping a finger on the pulse of the times. In their work, the artists address the dynamics of dance in the digital age and develop the concept of ‘post-internet dance’.
